MSI GL62M 7REX-2681IN Gaming Laptop Review!

Recently we got our hands on the MSI GL62M 7REX-2681IN Gaming Laptop. Is it the best laptop to buy under ₹90,000? Here is our take on each and every aspect of the laptop.

Like any other gaming laptop in the market this also has the Red and Black colour scheme. The laptop is built out of rigid and quality plastic material which feels sturdy enough and allows better cooling. Overall the laptop has matte black finish so need not worry about the laptop catching any fingerprints. On the top it has MSI branding and the Dragon logo and below the screen also there is an MSI logo.

The MSI laptops are always equipped with steel series keyboard which provide excellent and tactile feedback while gaming or typing and also comes with Red back lighting which can also be turned off. It also comes with a standard number pad.

The touch pad is very responsive even though it doesn’t have windows precision driver. It has two physical buttons for left & right clicks. Overall you can game on it without any issues.

MSI has done a great job by not skipping any kind of ports.

Left – Kensington lock, Gigabit Ethernet Port, 3 USB 3.0 Ports (2 type A & 1 type C), 1 HDMI 2.0 Ports, 1 Mini Display Port & Audio jacks.

Right – 1 USB 2.0 Port, SD Card Reader & Power Connector.

Generally most of the time MSI sacrifices its display panel quality in order to give better internals especially in the budget segment and the same continues here as well.It comes with a 15.6inch FULL HD matte TN panel which isn’t that great but it gets the job done. The viewing angles are bad I wish MSI had gone with an IPS panel.

Like any other gaming laptop in the market this also has decent battery life. On gaming it gives around 3 to 3.5 hours which isn’t great but definitely acceptable for the kind of power it packs in.

It is equipped with a dual fan design cooling system which paired with cool boost technology doesn’t allow the hardware to thermal throttle at all. The cut-outs on the back with mesh allows better air flow and keep the laptop free from dust. But the fan noise in clearly noticeable when the cool boost is turned on or else it remains silent most of the time.

It has quad speaker setup which are down firing and each are of 2W. It’s not the best but is definitely usable and produces good sound overall.

It supports both 2.4GHZ & 5GHZ WIFI bands which definitely comes in handy while playing online games. And the Bluetooth version 4.2 allows us to connect speakers and game controllers and other peripherals.

It comes with a free RAM slot which can be later on upgraded upto 32GB if required. It comes with 1TB hard drive for mass storage and 128GB SSD on which the Operating System is installed.

The model which we used was equipped with and Intel i7 7700HQ quad core processor coupled with 8GB of DDR4 RAM. The graphical duties are handled by GTX 1050Ti 4GB DDR5 GPU. So having these kind of internals as expected the performance was smooth in terms of gaming and productivity.

Editing 1080p videos is like breeze there are no hiccups of any sort. We got 12,025 score in Geekbench.

Coming to gaming it can handle all AAA titles in medium to high settings. In GTA V we got 10-30fps and in Overwatch around 75fps.

For the price for which it is available especially during sales it definitely makes a perfect choice for gamers apart from few compromises due to the GTX 1050Ti that it packs in which is suitable for 1080p gaming.
