Android Oreo/8.0.0 is rolling out officially to the Nexus/Pixel devices, the official devices include, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Pixel, Pixel XL, & Nexus Player, but if your device doesn’t coincide with official device you can still go ahead and flash the Android O ROM since Android is Open Source and recently after the release of Android Oreo they posted the Source code on their Forum so that the developers can implement the Android O ROM on other devices under AOSP(Android Open Source Project), which is officially out to Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Nexus 5X, Yureka, MI 3 and other devices.
I went out and flashed it on my OG Redmi Note 3, video link would be down below.
-Custom Recovery Installed either TWPR or CWM
If you don’t know how to complete these processes video linked down below. Once these steps completed head to the next step.
1)Take the Backup of the existing ROM and all the data as this ROM is pretty unstable and it is obvious considering the fact that this is a very early build on AOSP Android O and is in developing stage.
2)Download the ROM for Redmi Note 3 linked down below.
3)NO NEED to download any of the GApps(Google Apps) variant as this ROM is pretty heavy.
4)Head to the Developers Options on your device and enable USB Debugging.
5)Power OFF your device and press Power key+ Volume Up key to get into FastBoot mode and get into recovery that you installed.
6)Once into recovery head to “Wipe” section and select Advance wipe and select (i)Dalvik Cache (ii)Data (iii)Cache (iv)System. Now Swipe to Wipe these things.
7)Head to Install section and select AOSP Android O ROM and swipe to flash and install it.
8)Reboot your device and once it boots up you would be running on latest Android Oreo ROM on not so latest phone. Have patience as the first boot usually takes upto a few minutes.
9)Once it boots up set it up you are done.
