Flipkart’s Billion Capture+ Phone, the budget war is strong!

“Billion” is a brand launched by Flipkart and inspired by the Make In India initiative
and it is launching its first Made In India Smartphone – The  Billion Capture+

In a price sensitive market like India, the best range to make it’s way here is to target the mud-range segment. And the Billion Capture+ has some solid specifications to offer at very competitive pricing, also a good initiative under the ‘Make In India’ Project!

The first thing to appreciate is the build quality and in-hand feel. The Capture+ has a metal unibody construction with curved edges and a nice ergonomic design which has some heft which gives it a premium in-hand feel which is very similar to OnePlus 5. It surely feels premium in hand. The phone comes a bright red box which looks appealing. A good unboxing experience overall.

When it comes to specifications the Billion Capture+ boasts a Qualcomm SnapDragon 625 OctaCore processor
with a 8 x ARM Cortex A53 Cores clocked at 2.0 Ghz and has Adreno 506 GPU.
It comes in 2 variants the 64GB has 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB has 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM.  The device is 4G enabled on both slots with VoLTE support out of the box.

We received the 64GB storage variant out of which about 52GB is available.
It also has expandable storage of upto 128GB. The storage expansion is a hybrid solution.

The Billion Capture+ is powered by India’s TronX, an AI-IoT platform, so it offers free and unlimited cloud storage right out of the box. So it gives the similar luxury of Pixel devices where users get unlimited Google Drive storage. Good to see an Indian brand offering unlimited cloud storage in the budget pricing.

The Capture+ comes with stock Android Nougat 7.1.2 and the company has guaranteed an upgrade to Android Oreo.

It has a 5.5-inch FHD display with 401ppi and has 2.5D Dragontrail Glass and not with usual Corning’s Gorilla Glass. The Dragontrail Glass has a slightly lower value of Vickers Hardness than the Gorilla Glass which means Gorilla Glass is harder to scratch. The Dragontrail Glass is usually found on phones in Japan. But it will surely offer some protection over scratches.

The Billion Capture+ has 3500mAh battery and also support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. Amongst the competition of similarly speced and priced phones, Capture+ has the largest battery with quick charge support. A good add-on over the Mi A1 or the Moto G5S+ The supplied charger in the box is a quick charger that can output at 5V/3A, 9V/2A and 12V/1.5A. An USB Type-C connector to charge it and the company claims to give up to 7hrs of battery in 15 minutes. We will test it out surely!

For the camera duties, the Billion Capture+ has a Dual Rear camera with RGB(13MP) and Monochrome(13MP) sensors which has f/2.0 Aperture and 1.12 µm pixel size. It also has a Dual Trueflash.
The Front facing Camera is a 8MP sensor. More on camera samples below.

It also retains the 3.5mm Headphone Jack at the top which cannot be taken for granted nowadays. The Fingerprint Sensor is located at the back of the device and worked pretty well in our testing. It also has all the normal array of sensors with Proximity ,Accelerometer, Pedometer and many more…

The Billion Capture+ will be priced at Rs.12,999 for the 64GB Storage with 4GB RAM and Rs.10,999 for the 32GB Storage with 3GB RAM.

Considering the specifications, the Capture+ bears a much cheaper price as compared to phones with similar specs like Snapdragon 625 and Dual cameras on the Mi A1 and the Moto G5S+

The Capture+ also has the new USB type-C port while the competition in the price is still stuck with micro-USB. And yet, it does not compromise on the headphone jack either hence retaining it.

We received a pre-production unit of this device so the camera app was a bit laggy but we are promised a software update to fix this issue before the device launch.

Here are some of the camera samples –

So,the Flipkart’s Billion Capture+ is another device in the sea of all the SnapDragon 625 devices. But with it’s Stock Android UI, 13+13MP Dual camera set-up and
a competitive price tag of Rs.10,999 for the 32GB variant will it be able to compete with the popular choices like Mi A1 and Moto G5s Plus and win ‘Billions’
of hearts with it’s all Made In India glory? We will test this device comprehensively for all the answers so stay tuned for our full review of the Billion
Capture+.
