Infinix S5 Unboxing and First Impresssions!

Infinix has been pretty loyal to their budget segment consumers. The company has been launching products under the 10k range for quite a while now. What makes the Infinix S5 stand out from their previous models in the past. Let’s take a look.

We’ve seen devices grow old with the bezel-less display which was then followed by the infamous notch which can be seen in devices such as the Poco F1 and etc etc. Then came the waterdrop notch and now finally the Punchole camera. Samsung was the first to adapt this technology in their flagship devices and we haven’t really gotten to see any other device get a hold of that trend. Until today, Infinix is trying to change that with its latest offering the Infinix S5.

Unboxing and First Impressions:

The unboxing experience was pretty mainstream nothing extraordinary. Opening up the box you are greeted with the S5 and the punchole camera that comes with it. Followed by a 5V charging brick and a USB cable. Unfortunately, the company has still not adapted to the Type-C cables as of now. Also, you get a TPU case in the box and a scratch guard which is a good touch for the end consumers.

Holding the device in hand gives us a feel of their previous model, the Infinix S4, well, except for the waterdrop notch we get the in-display camera this time around. The device does feel good to hold in hand is very lightweight. The back panel is made out of plastic which is quite normal for devices in this price segment which is one of the reasons the S5 feels lighter.  The company calls this back panel design as “Crystal Feather” pattern. It comes in two color variants, Quetzal Cyan and Violet, we are currently using the Cyan version which in my opinion does look pretty and less vibrant than the violet version.

Display and Design:

The display is probably the main highlight of the device since it is ‘full view’ with the in-display camera. Every company is starting to adapt to the notch trend and its good to see someone try out the punchole camera in this price range. The display is 720p which is a let down since Redmi is pushing out Full HD displays under the 10K markets. The display is a 6.6inch HD+ unit with a rather unusual thick bottom bezel which could have been minimized.

To the back of the device, you can see a quad-camera setup which seems to be mandatory nowadays. The camera setup is accompanied by a quad-LED flash setup and a fingerprint sensor just below it. The fingerprint sensor for me seems to be placed a little higher than usual. To the side, you can find the volume rockers and a power button and on the other side is the sim card slot where you can insert two sim cards and a microSD card as well.

Battery, Software, and Availability:

To the bottom of the device is the USB port for charging the speaker grill and the most loved headphone jack, good to see budget devices staying loyal to the good’ol jack. The device runs on X0S 5.5 which is based on Android Pie 9.0, so far I’m having no issues with the custom skin.

The Infinix S5 comes with a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset with the lone 4GB+64GB variant. The device does run pretty smoothly in our day-to-day usage. The smartphone comes with a 4,000maAh battery which should be more than enough to last you the entire day on moderate usage. The Infinix S5 is listed on Flipkart with a price tag of Rs.8,999.  If you guys need an in-depth review of the S5 do let us know in the comments below.
