How to Root Xiaomi Mi A1 | Complete guide

So Mi A1, a collaboration of Xiaomi and Google. One of the best budget phones to consider these days. Well having some awesome budget specs with Snapdragon 625, ROM Development is a must to go and just like Redmi Note 4, it should get many custom ROMs in future, so stay tuned on dhananjaytech.com for that.

But to flash custom ROMs, you need an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, and root access, right? So here is a complete guide to getting that done step by step-

Prerequisites:  OEM Unlocking should be enabled on your phone. If it is not then you can go into settings > About Phone and tap on build no. 7 times to get access to developer options. Now again go into settings> Developer Options and enable “OEM Unlocking”

1. So you need these files to have it on your hard drive placed in a folder. You can download them here-

                                 Recovery files (TWRP) and Platform tool (adb)

2. Now extract the Platform-tools zip file and copy the recovery.img file into it.

3. Now switch off your device (Mi A1) and enter into fastboot mode by pressing Volume down + Power Button and connect your phone to PC/laptop via USB Cable.

4. Now Open Platform-tools folder and Hold Shift + right Click on any empty space and click on Open command/PowerShell window.

5. Once opened type  ” fastboot oem unlock “

6. Now hold the Power button for few seconds to get into the system again and switch it off and boot to fastboot and connect phone again.

7. Now type “ fastboot boot recovery.img “ to boot into the TWRP recovery.

8. Once the recovery is opened on the device, swipe to allow modification in that.

9. Now copy TWRP installer and Magisk zip file into your internal storage.

10. Now click on install –> navigate to TWRP installer and flash it. It will install TWRP recovery over stock/current recovery of the device.

11. Now go back and go into Reboot –> Slot B.

12. Now go back again into Reboot and Open Bootloader(fastboot mode).

13. Again type fastboot boot recovery.img to boot into TWRP.

14. Again flash the twrp installer to completely install the recovery.

                   { You can check it via booting into Recovery again}

15. Now to root the device, flash the Magisk zip file.

16. Now Boot into System again by going into, Reboot –> System (No data loss!)

17. Now to get complete root access install Magisk Manager apk file.

        {Do note that You should not update the Magisk Manager from App}

That’s it! You have successfully gained the Root access, Unlocked bootloader and Installed custom recovery on Xiaomi A1. Huge thanks to developers on XDA for their time and efforts.
